John started the topic Favorite Bible Verse for martial artists in the forum Scripture and the Sword 9 years, 2 months ago
Hey everyone, I want to start a discussion about favorite Bible verses.
As a martial artist, I believe the most appropriate verse is Proverbs 16:32; “The patient are better than warriors, and those who rule their temper, better than the conqueror of a city.”
Then there’s Luke 6:36, “Be merciful, just as [also] your Father is merciful.”

Yes, John they are the same material used in a slightly different way.
For instance both Djurus Satu and Lankas Dua are performed in a slightly different way in American than in Malabar. From there the systems’ branches grow farther apart.
The American life style is considerably different than the life style in Indonesia was before the Second…[Read more]

Thanks everyone for your input so far. Pak Steve, I see that it’s the American curriculum you’ve provided. How about the Malabar KTS curriculum? It’s my understanding that the first two levels are the same as American…

I was browsing Wiktenauer’s directories of medieval combat manuscripts (which contain a variety of dirty clinch work, elbows, knees, trips, low kicks) and decided to look for any similarities to Silat.
From Nicolaes Petter’s famous Dutch wrestling manual, published in 1672:

Hi everyone.
When I was looking at the DLP videos, I saw Pak Steve performing Lankas Dua and wearing a t-shirt with the KTS logo.
I was wondering, where can I get one? It looks really cool, and I think would be great for the KTS community.

found this on youtube. While it maybe a re-hashed form of street boxing, It’s something to watch.
There a lot of videos about this method of fighting. It seems that inmates or convicts often have a lot of experience fighting in prison, hence some method of combat or martial arts would emerge. Hsing-I…[Read more]

watched the heavy bag video, excellent! Most people merely stand in one place, punching and kicking without moving. Real fighting is fluid as well as dynamic. Learning to duck, dodge and weave while striking is an accomplished skill. It requires a great deal of forethought, as well as lots of practice. This is application at its best.

Howdy John,
KunTao Silat honours the ancient tradition of training with the ‘master’ in the backyard. In our case it is by video, but the principle remains the same. The major concept is that you learn by doing, not by being told the specifics. It is the principles that provide the keys. By training with the videos, you see what the teacher is…[Read more]
