Welcome to KunTao Silat ~ the American Martial LifeStyle › Forums › General Category › Scripture and the Sword › Favorite Bible Verse for martial artists
Hey everyone, I want to start a discussion about favorite Bible verses.
As a martial artist, I believe the most appropriate verse is Proverbs 16:32; “The patient are better than warriors, and those who rule their temper, better than the conqueror of a city.”
Then there’s Luke 6:36, “Be merciful, just as [also] your Father is merciful.”
I believe these two are particularly important for Christian martial artists, as they reinforce the principle that practice is for self-improvement, and fighting only as a last resort.
But enough of what I think, how about the rest of you?
One of my favourites: Luke 22: 36-38
He answered them, “But now, whoever has a purse, let him take it, and likewise a bag; and he that has no sword, let him sell his cloak and buy one. For I tell you, that which was written must be completed in Me: That He was also ranked among the outlaws {Isa. 53:12-13} for indeed what has been written about Me will have fulfillment.”
“Master, see!” said they, “there are two swords here.”
“That will do,” was His reply
And my favorite: Psalms 144: 1-2
Bless YHVH my Rock,
Who taught my hands to fight,
And my fingers to war!
My hope, and my fortress,
My high hill of retreat;
My shield that I trust,
Who to me brought my Tribe!
