HelloBesides the videos available from AKTS what other instructional videos do you recommend? For example one I found is Joseph Simonet(he claims to have trained with Victor de Thouars), advanced Silat concepts:http://www.amazon.com/Advanced-Silat-Concepts-Secrets-Pentjak/dp/B000JHQAR6/Do you consider this video to be good Silat?

If I may, Silat is a lot like Fried Rice. EVERYONE has their own recipe, and its flavor tends to be from whatever you have lying around (your skillsets, understanding, and previous arts).Simonet did study with Victor. His videos show a version of Victor's 18 short forms. So as a reference of those, its nice. But his implementation is very different than what Victor taught. But as someone who's taken Serak, let me just say that I'm not a big fan of his "flavor". I'm not denigrating his abilities or skills. But his version of it has a laundry list of issues I disagree with. I feel (personally) that it can work for him due to his strength and size. But I personally feel (again, just opinion) that if I were to fight a smaller and weaker student of his who fought exclusively with Serak, my chances would be rather...astronomically in my favor.I would say if you're looking for a comparison of similar styles, Serak (as a brother art to AKS) is a good choice for some comparison. It might be worth getting Simonet's Serak Concepts vids, Stevan Plinck's Bukti Negara video from Paladin, and Rudy Terlinden's 2 videos from Inside Kung-Fu (RIP IKF) to see different flavors of Dutch-Indo styles/methods.But let's be clear here. AKS, while a brother-art to Serak, has a uniqueness and method all its own, and situated for someone who isn't interested in politics and able (and wants to) be able to stand on their own. All my best,John
