Thanks for the background information Robb. You’ll find some similar stories among those currently practicing KunTao Silat. We seem to attract folks who have “been around the block” and experienced a wide variety of martial arts and attained rank in many styles. Most of our members have a couple decades or more of martial training before they find KunTao Silat.
Your strength training will pay off in spades when you start training the legwork. Training partners will enhance your application training beyond what words can express, so your current student body will be a blessing as well.
We have several members in the DFW area, so when you get your practice group started you may have some ready-made participants.
I think your motivation is honourable and I believe you’ll find the calibre of people attracted to this art will find you with kindred spirits.
May the Creator richly bless you in all your endeavours,
Steve.
I started my martial arts Journey at the age of 14 like all the kids my age I wanted to be like Bruce Lee. My first stop was Eric Miller’s Shotokan would you dance to The Showdown rank from there I started isshinryu karate and american karate. Advancing to sho-dan in these styles as well. In 1993 I begin a study in Jeet Kune Do on the advice of my JKD instructor I started studying Wing Chun which helped me better undrrstand JKD. JKD training I was exposed to other arts like kali, in other Filipino martial arts today I’ll be 45 years old on the 4th of June after 30 years of martial arts training and teaching I have developed my own combat method. The name of my Dojo is Martial fit dojo I combine weight training with martial arts training. I believe this method is effective because at the age of 45 physically I’m in the best shape of my life being a certified strength and conditioning coach I use Innovative methods to increase stamina speed power and accuracy in Striking grappling and kicking I also use internal martial training and yoga at the age of 44 I can do 120 push-ups I can do 60 plus one-arm push-ups I can do 1200 body squats Non-Stop my goal is not to compete my goal is not to be a show-off my goal is to be the best martial artist I can be a complete martial artist and share my knowledge with those who come after me this is how we Preserve martial arts. I believe that this is my calling to use the many gifts that God has given me I hope I’m not too long-winded Steve before I forget I’m located in Tyler Texas
Awesome stuff! I love it!
Thank you Steve and Jeff for that demonstration of kuntao silat tiger applications it was very informative and educational. What a lot of people don’t realize that’s on the outside looking in on a martial arts style or system is that when it comes to animal forms you don’t imitate the animal you emulate its attributes. I’m planning on taking both Guru certification courses in American kuntao silat your art will be a welcome addition to the curriculum at my own dojo thank you again.
Hi Robb,
Guru Jeff is a very good teacher and I’m honoured to have such a man in the KunTao Silat Family! You will be seeing more video of his teachings as I get the footage from the First Annual American KunTao Silat Gathering online.
Please take the opportunity to tell us a bit about yourself and where you have your dojo. It is always a joy for me to see quality martial arts schools include KunTao Silat in their curriculum. Let me know if there is anything I can do to facilitate your KunTao Silat journey.
Happy thoughts,
Steve
