OK, so the first time I watched the DVD, I just about gave up, a little confused with all the arm movements and turn arounds; second time I said let me watch that over again – still a little confused, third time I said, maybe I should go back to JKD, fourth time I said maybe I can get this in slow motion, today I went through most of the first DVD up to the Tiger stance, who knows, maybe I’ll get there eventually? Have a great weekend and Happy Easter if you celebrate it!

    • I recently got the course myself and have just started working from the DVD “Kuntao Silat Basics” from the Course A case. I don’t think I need to do the hand motions not specifically named and explained yet. I just do what’s explained and the stances, adding later ones as I get better at the previous.

      • I understand the confusion. Some have said that “one” move is actually 1000 in KunTao Silat – and there is some truth to that. But as Christopher says, it is important to focus on the base movement in order to perfect that – before moving on to the intricacies. One of the things we hope to do in this new forum format is to be able to provide short video clips, slowed down and explained in greater detail. So your observations are very valuable to us. It also needs to be said that Steve learned by observation and nothing was specifically named. As we proceed to classify and codify each of these movements I think we need to use American terms to describe them. So please tell us exactly what movements are giving you confusion and we will try to help define them in terms we can all understand.

Thank you for your participation, questions and comments.
