This past weekend marked a milestone in KunTao Silat: the 2024 Family Gathering.
This event saw Pendekar Steve Gartin present the 3rd Generation of KunTao Silat to the world. Dr. Jonathan Pyndus, Guru and Keeper of the Lineage, brought several of his core students to New Mexico for their first visit to Catron County so they could practice KunTao Silat in the Nature which inspired the art.
Two new Guru Mudas were promoted during the Family Gathering, which also saw interested members of the public converge upon the Catron County Community Center throughout the weekend as Dr. Jon lead his students through the original Five Forms of Malabar KunTao Silat under Pendekar Steve’s watchful eye and Ibu Rose’s sharp camera. Applications were presented with key insights contributed by Guru Mudas Michael Pyndus and James Kern. The students also had the chance to play Sticky Hands both armed and unarmed with the various instructors and each other over the course of the weekend.
In addition to training in town, the group was also able to practice KunTao Silat while hiking the Gila Wilderness at the incredible Catwalk
National Recreation Area. Flowing alongside the stream, the group practiced Poquazen and Chang Style KunTao Chi Kung, developing a deeper appreciation for the higher levels of KunTao Silat.
Future events will be incoming, and everyone in the KunTao Silat community is encouraged to join online, in person, and, especially, in New Mexico to develop their own Martial Lifestyle.
