Hi Jeff and Joe! Thanks for reaching out. We always encourage all our distance learning students to get local practice groups going. Great to know there is a good group brewing in the great lake region!

Let us know if there is anything we can do to help as we’re all on this martial journey together.

      Cheers,
      Elijah

Hi Eric,I've been in the system for about 10 years. Teaching for about half of that or more. The greatest advice I have for you is to 'Just Do It', and do it often throughout the day. When possible, I like to use a full length mirror to show proper form. I want to make sure I look just like they do in the videos, and in person. When you body hurts from joint pain, go easy and listen to your body.

John, Would you mind adding more to this thread? I think you have some great thoughts here. What I'd like to see from your perspective is maybe a few clips of some finishing techniques in a UFC fight, and add to it with a clip of you coming up with an answer to it, the KTS way.Aric

Having witnessed the 'crazy eyes' myself from both Vic and Willem, I recall what Uncle shared with the guru training group some years ago. He widened the eyes like that of the monkey, not to be crazy, but get a full view of the entire situation. Tunnel vision should not happen if you are calm when in a dangerous situation. The martial way is to remain calm, which is a very difficult trait to train.I saw him do it particularly when he made entrance, so that he could get a full view of the other hand and legs.Just my .02 cents.Aric

Hello All and thank you for accepting me in your forum. I met Sifu Chang at a Demo in Salida, CO. I was there as a representative from my Ed Parker School in Canon City, CO. I think Mr Gartin was there then; I think his group brought Sifu Chang. I asked for instruction in the Chinese Healing Arts. over the next few months I met for interviews with Master John Chin, Master Willis Yap and other representatives and was accepted as a student, signed a contract and enjoyed an elaborate induction ceremony, September 1981.I commuted to training in Denver and lived with Sifu Chang for extended periods in Denver and Manhattan Beach California. I was aware that Grand Master Willem de Thouars was Sifu Chang's Sponsor for INS purposes and they were close but I never met him.I have an early article written by Master Steve Gartin about Sifu Chang. As was customary by tradition, I introduced Master Chang to My Kenpo Grand Master Ed Parker at the International Kenpo Championship Tournament at Long Beach CA in 1981 and received Mr. Parker's blessing to study what he considered extensions and ancestral roots of Modern American Kenpo. I had asked to study "Healing," but Sifu Chang said I must learn the Art. I studied mostly his Meng Po Kung Fu but was into Shing Ie and Silat as well.I love Mr. Parker and Mr. Chang very much and was devastated by the passing of both within months of each other. I am however, still guided by the Living Spirit of both. Sifu Chang said "I am not finished with you yet."I so happy to have found this forum and the Family that gathers to Honor each other around the World. As Sifu calls us: "My kids!"All the bestDoug SchwinnGrand Junction Colorado. I have begun a facebook page: Doug Schwinn Kenpo/Kung Fu. i would enjoy hearing from you.

According to the "Die Less Often" video, most "good guys" die from an attack that originated within 6 feet. Also, you are 85% likely to survive a bullet wound, but only 65% likely to survive a knife wound. I haven't checked those facts, but they sound likely.

I just wanted to make a comment on this as far as the medical standpoint on this.

A Veteran is someone who once wrote a blank check to "The USA” for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who don't understand it.

My check is still floating around... Through the couple of fireworks shows I visited this past weekend, it was amazing

Too cool, and out from the shadows you come. Nice to have you on the site Marc.

Thank you for your compliment, but there’s still so much work to do including forum improvements.

As I was discussing with another sigung today, I have big ideas on a small budget. Slowly but slowly it’ll get better. 🙂

If you ever need anything you can shoot me a line through the website or on email, elijah@kuntaosilat.com.

      Peace,
      Elijah
