Steve replied to the topic Testing Requirements in the forum Distance Learning Program 7 years, 11 months ago
This is an excellent example of what I had hoped would develop through the PracticeLeader Program. In spite of the fact that my organization of the video learning programs and testing procedures leaves a lot to the imagination, Rick wants to be very precise in his personal teaching ~ so he asks questions.
Christopher, who has recently progressed…[Read more]

Your first video shows a great deal of hard work and attention to detail. You will certainly become a fine teacher of KunTao Silat. I appreciate your gusto for the art.

Steve replied to the topic Eagle Form in the forum Learning KunTao Silat 8 years, 3 months ago
No form, but the stance and kicking style is embedded in the Malabar LegSet WarmUp.
You haven’t yet had the opportunity to experience the “gunting” inherent in our StickingHands, but that IS Eagle in application, and it hurts plenty.
The ‘travel’ you see in the Inner Circle Greeting is the Eagle.
But since it is my logo and I’m…[Read more]

Message: Greetings Kuntao Silat Players, I am interested in the distance program and am curious as to weather or not there are any other Kuntao players in the Michigan area ( I currently reside in Michigan). I have been studying martial arts for a little while now. First starting in Shaolin Long Fist, Chen tai chi, and now a indo-Chinese variation…[Read more]

I couldn’t help but look up the opinion.

It was a second degree murder conviction. I think it is a sobering read for martial artists. I’m biased for a number of reasons but I’ll tell you that I did witness innumerable abuses from some though not all bouncers in NYC during…[Read more]

I forgot to add, regarding the issue of legality, a trend I’ve perceived since the explosion of kerambits and other exotic knives in the market. In non-knife-friendly states (the biggest one IMO being NY) the design and shape alone will give the enforcers an excuse to go after you. I remember one case from NY (the defendant’s name was Umali, if I…[Read more]

I think the adrenaline rush is going to make grip the knife as tightly as possible. Your question reminds me of a question I’ve had regarding knife grips in KTS. In the video where Chas Clements teaches knife fighting he advocates a tight, solid, hammer grip with short strong stabs and slashes none of them going outside the box. If I hear him…[Read more]
