That is a logical direction Jon. I actually added the reverse turn to address the issue of rapidly changing at the lower gate to accommodate the chaos of combat. So, although tornadoes do not change direction, it is a good English explanation.

Good plan Duane! Set a date and let’s get an introductory seminar scheduled. That will really get your PracticeGroup rolling. :-)>

The plan is to spend a couple of days training and considering the primary principles of KunTao Silat’s combat applications.
It will be critical for those who choose to attend to have a solid foundation in the KTS basics.
PracticeLeaders are encouraged to attend, but also those who want to certify as Teachers because applications are required…[Read more]

Steve replied to the topic Testing Requirements in the forum Distance Learning Program 7 years, 9 months ago
This is an excellent example of what I had hoped would develop through the PracticeLeader Program. In spite of the fact that my organization of the video learning programs and testing procedures leaves a lot to the imagination, Rick wants to be very precise in his personal teaching ~ so he asks questions.
Christopher, who has recently progressed…[Read more]

The best place to keep up to date is going to be the Vimeo testing group, in my opinion, but here’s what I understand of it, just for another perspective:
Any level can have applications, including level 1. For level 1, you have the applications to every level 1 stance or drill, and for the triangle work. So for example, you might show your…[Read more]

It’s explained in various places, but here’s my specific understanding:
Any level can have applications, including level 1. For level 1, you have the applications to every level 1 stance or drill, and for the triangle work. So for example, you might show your understanding of striking mechanics, use of the foot and body turning to get off line,…[Read more]

I hope to get the first of the training manuals out by end of March 2017. Then we will work through each level.
These will only be available to those in the program, who are following the teacher track. Some of the content will be shared on this site to provide examples of the content.
Our hope is to have all five levels finished by early 2018.…[Read more]

“My question is, is this a matter of the individuals’ knife fighting style?”
Seems to me like it’s a mix of that and the individual’s operating environment. Some cultures have things that won’t work in others.
Think of three different eras in self defense training.
One is high middle ages. It’s popular to wear heavy coats, carry long daggers a…[Read more]

Steve replied to the topic Eagle Form in the forum Learning KunTao Silat 8 years, 1 month ago
No form, but the stance and kicking style is embedded in the Malabar LegSet WarmUp.
You haven’t yet had the opportunity to experience the “gunting” inherent in our StickingHands, but that IS Eagle in application, and it hurts plenty.
The ‘travel’ you see in the Inner Circle Greeting is the Eagle.
But since it is my logo and I’m…[Read more]
