It’s been such an amazing experience. Learning KTS by video was great but getting the feeling of it by real Masters changed the entire thing. I’d like to thank Pendekar Steve Gartin for showing me his sensitivity skills and for that extremely interesting chat up there in Thunder Rock!!! Sigung Joe Judt has been so kind with me: sharing a lot of informations, tips and training methods. I loved Sigung Aric Fowler’s soft-power approach and his great tips about Langkah Dua and the seven energies. Guru Jeff Fargo is such a nice person and i loved his corrections and suggestions. Kyle, Tim, Pat, Larry, Paco, Jossef (Ice-pick Dr.Go ), Chris, Milton, Stephen,Yvonne..i’m so thankful for all the things i learnt from each and everyone of you. And so many kisses to Rose for taking care of us in such a lovely way:the taste of your spinach ravioli and peach cheesecake will remain in my heart forever!!! KTS is TRULY a FAMILY!!!

Actually i just got the chance to train by videos, using the Distance Learning Program but my previous Martial Arts training served me well. I just followed the instructions Pak Steve gives in the videos and paid attention to the way they used to move in the old days. Some movements were quite familiar to me but the legwork..the legwork was the key. In 2004 i injured my right knee and due to that i modified my training because i was scared of experimenting more pain: my stances became higher because of that. When i decided to start my KTS journey i was not able to keep the horse stance, the dragon’s tail sweeps were just a dream and also the king dragon sits and dragon steps were almost impossible to perform to me. I tried, no matter the pain and now, after a couple of years everything is easier and the pain in my knees is gone. There are a couple of Pak Steve’s quotes that helped me a lot in my training: “the basics are the advanced stuff” and “KTS is a Martial Life-style: you have to practice your stances and movements constantly, and incorporate ’em in your daily life”.

I’d like to thank Pak Steve for video-recording all the original footage and creating the Distance Learning Program ( a very useful tool for the serious student ); Sigung Aric Fowler for all his suggestions, tips and corrections: his good destructive criticism has been extremely helpful; all my Brothers GM Jonathan Pyndus, Rick Vargas and Larry Zolper that helped me and inspired me in many ways. I’m Blessed!!!

That hand posture is a Qígong exercise (known as “Holding the Ball”, “Embracing the Tree”), that teaches a convenient structure for combat applications as well. If you keep your hands at 10:10 (imagine you are facing a clock-face ) and try to maintain a 108° degrees angle at the elbow joint whilst keeping your shoulders relaxed..there you are!!!

I see!!! Ok then: i’ll upload a testing video including Taung Lung Tai form + applications of it, but for sure i’ll study and train Ling Sing Toi and all the Internal/External KunTao forms included in the “New” Program to improve my understanding of Malabar KunTao-Silat. The learning path is a never-ending one!!! Thank you so much for your help Pak Steve: i really appreciated it!!!

The “problem” with numeration is because i started my KTS journey with the “old” system so my L6MKTST Test was about Pai Yun Form. Now i have to step into Taung Lung Tai.

Thank you so much Pak Steve!!! What i meant with L7MKTST was my next test: the Taung Lung Tai test. So only the Gasshophoper form+applications is required for that test?!

You are right Pak Steve. The Postal Circus is not our friend, nor are the Customs Taxes here in Italy. Two weeks ago i recieved my couple of Tjabang from Malaysia: it took me almost two months to get ’em delievered no matter the fact that after twenty days of shipping the parcel was already at the customs depot in Milan. The problem with that parcel was that my friend wrote it was a gift so they didn’t have thechance to rip me off with taxes. So instead of two weeks it took two months, many e-mails and phone callings to get it home..

      Thank you Jonathan.

Shipping something to Italy from the U.S. is quite expensive. Please let me know how much it will cost. White Crane?! Hmmmm..sounds like a very good Jow..keep me up to date..

      Hi Jonathan,
I’m using Shaolin Brand products at the moment but i’m interested into your homemade Jow. Is it possible to send it to the Old Europe as well?!

      Thank you in advance.

And P.S.:yes, you understood and answered my question in a perfect way. I loved this discussion: it helped me so much to understand more details about this form, its movements and heritage.

I have another couple of questions for you Guys. Ted Garcia’s performance includes only a couple of Iron Broom-Stick Sweeps at the end of the form, whilst Marcelo, Chuck and Dave include a couple of those Sweeps after every couple of 360° turns. Is it just a matter of personal choice?! And: are the Sweeps going in the same direction you were heading before of the couple of 360° turns or not?! Let’s say i’m facing North-East after my Monkey Turn. I perform my two elbow blows and 360° turns. During my Sweeps, do i still face North-East, or do i face South-West?! Thank you in advance for the explanations.

If i’m not wrong it seems to me that Langkah Tiga/Monyet is an hybrid form including various elements of Djurus Satu and Langkah Dua. Willem handwork reminds me of a version of “Reeling the Silk” exercise from Taijiquan i used to study with Shifu Anthony Walmsley (no fixed sequence but with a core principle: in this particular case a body structure that manifest itself with various hand techniques and configurations) .I very like Ted Garcia’s coreography because i find it more “rich”, but i like as well turning in the opposite direction of the elbow blow (as Phillip Sailas does). I decided that after the KTS Greeting, i’ll include 4 Mirror Hands(?!? if we can call it like that), than 4 Mirror Hands with the two-fingers pointing, than 4 Songsat, than 4 Finger Jabs, than 4 Punches and than 4 Triple Hitters ( Elbow, Backfist,Supported Punch).A Wave-Hand and the the King-Dragon Sits.

Thank you Pak Steve. This clip clarifies it all, and as you said: all of this stuff is quite familiar to those who have been studying internal martial arts. I really love it!!!

Thank you for the clarifications Pak Steve. There are so many infos and sometimes it’s easy to get confused. After completing the Malabar Basic Levels i’ll for sure subscribe for the on-line private lessons: there’s should be a lot more informations to study in there.

This is a problem. And i’m interested a lot into the answer as well because i wanted to step into the internal area of the program after Ling Sing Toi.

I agree with Rick 100%. We are lucky. Been part of such a Family as the KTS is, should move us to share as many informations as possible. Martial Arts is a field in which we improve with cooperation. When i uploaded on Vimeo those clips abot dumbells and medicine balls i was a bit doubtful but i also thought: “perhaps someone could find it interesting..”. So i did it. I’m quite new in KunTao-Silat: not even two years of practice, but what i previously done seems to melt quite well with our practice so i keep training it as well. My suggestion for everyone is just to spend more and more time on the basics: (i consider Langkah Nol one of the most difficult forms i’ve ever studied). People usually want more techniques, more complicated forms; but according to me it’s far more better to study 10.000 times more a basic technique than a complicated sequence. I don’t want to look like a boaster but Mastery comes from repetition of basics. I hope to fix my technological issues in one week-time and then i’ll be back with some videos and chatting as well. Congatulations again for your work Rick!!!
